With pin-outs, density, and design that compliment Stratix II devices, HardCopy II devices are high-performance, low-cost structured ASICs. Phase-locked loops (PLLs), memory, and I/O elements (IOEs) of the HardCopy II device are electrically and functionally comparable to those of the Stratix II FPGA. A comprehensive, low-risk design solution is offered by the combination of Stratix II FPGAs for in-system prototype and design verification, HardCopy II devices for high-volume production, and the Quartus II software for design.
The successful and tried-and-true methodology of the two earlier generations of HardCopy series devices is improved upon by HardCopy II devices. For a particular device density, Altera HardCopy II devices employ the same basic arrays in numerous configurations and can be changed using just two metal layers. Comparing HardCopy II devices to Stratix II FPGA prototypes, a 90% cost decrease is possible.
