APEXTM 20K devices are the first PLDs created using the MultiCore architecture, which combines the advantages of LUT-based and productterm-based devices with an enhanced memory structure. LUT-based logic provides the optimum performance and efficiency for systems that include data routes, register-intensive operations, mathematics, or digital signal processing (DSP). Product-term-based logic is intended to function optimally with complex combinatorial paths, including complex state machines. Thanks to LUT- and product-term-based logic, memory functions, and a wide range of MegaCore and AMPP capabilities, the APEX 20K device architecture is particularly well suited for system-on-a-programmable-chip designs. Applications that previously required a mix of LUT-, product-term-, and memory-based devices can now be employed with APEX 20K devices.
