MAX 10 FPGA

MAX 10 FPGA Overview

By providing cutting-edge processing capabilities in a low-cost, single-chip compact form factor programmable logic device, Intel MAX 10 FPGAs redefine non-volatile integration. Using either single or dual-core voltage supply, densities range from 2K to 50K LEs. This builds on the single chip heritage of prior MAX device types. The MAX 10 FPGA family has both high I/O pin count and advanced tiny wafer scale packaging (3 mm × 3 mm) options.

The instant-on feature of MAX 10 FPGAs is made possible by the use of TSMC's 55 nm embedded NOR flash technology. ADCs (analog-to-digital converters), which allow you to store and dynamically switch between two images on a single chip, and dual configuration flash are integrated features. Unlike CPLDs, MAX 10 FPGAs also include full-featured FPGA capabilities, such as Nios II soft core embedded processor support, digital signal processing (DSP) blocks, and soft DDR3 memory controllers.

Through improved system component function integration, MAX 10 FPGAs enable system-level cost savings:

  • Flash with two configurationsWith hundreds of potential reprogram cycles, a single on-die flash memory enables a dual configuration for real fail-safe updates.

  • Integrated analog blocks with ADCs and temperature sensors offer lower latency, less board space, and more flexible sample-sequencing than standalone analog blocks.

  • A system board's instant-on MAX 10 FPGAs may be the first functional component to regulate the startup of other parts like high density FPGAs, ASICs, ASSPs, and processors.

  • Nios II soft core embedded processor—MAX 10 FPGAs support the integration of the Nios II soft core embedded processors, giving embedded developers a single-chip, completely customisable, instant-on CPU subsystem.

  • DSP blocks – The MAX 10 FPGAs are the first non-volatile FPGAs with DSP, making them perfect for high-performance, high-precision applications that use integrated 18x18 multipliers.

  • External DDR3 memory interfaces are supported by MAX 10 FPGAs via soft intellectual property (IP) memory controllers, making them ideal for embedded, video, and datapath applications.

  • Software-controlled system management using embedded Nios II soft core processors for complex control

  • Support for single-core voltage—Single supply offering necessary for managing power-up sequence

  • Advanced single chip Nios II embedded applications are made possible by MAX 10 FPGAs' user flash, which offers up to 736 KB of on-die user flash code storage. Configuration choices affect how much user flash is available.
