The configuration data must be loaded each time an SRAM-based device is powered on in order to configure the system. When powered on, the flash memory EPCS1SI8N device may store configuration information for FPGA configuration. Every FPGA that supports the AS x1 configuration scheme can use this EPCS1SI8N device. For an 8-pin SOIC package, you can move vertically from an EPCS1 device to an EPCS4 or EPCS16 device. For a 16-pin SOIC package, you can vertically switch between an EPCS64 device and an EPCS128 device. The new data decompression capability that is supported allows you to select which EPCS device to save the configuration data on when configuring your FPGA.
